As you probably already know, military service is mandatory for South Korean male citizens—and celebrities are no exception no matter how popular you are. It usually lasts for about two years, which prompts them to put their present plans on hold. But as for the 34-year-old actor Kim Seon Ho, he was able to complete his military service before he even made his television debut in 2017 for a minor role in the office drama Good Manager. And while he didn’t have to give up his acting career, he did end up losing something else—his then-girlfriend, to be exact!
With Kim Seon Ho’s growing popularity (thanks to the hit K-drama Start-Up) comes the resurgence of past interviews from the early days of his career. Currently resurfacing online is his past radio interview in 2016 with SBS PowerFM’s Park Seonyoung’s Cinetown, where he opened up about his ex-girlfriend while in the military—and you wouldn’t believe what this Korean heartthrob had to go through in the name of love.
Shockingly, it turns out that his girlfriend of three years broke up with him in the middle of his enlistment and did so over a cold yet heartbreaking text message. The actor shared, “When I was in the military, I had a girlfriend who I had been dating for over three years. She broke up with me via text. She simply wrote, ‘Sorry, oppa.’”
That being said, the actor didn’t simply give up on their relationship. Even though she “completely ghosted” him after sending him that text message, he made the effort to come to her house on his day off to hopefully patch things up. “She completely ghosted me. So, I went to her house on my day-off,” he narrated. “When she came out of her house, I asked her if we could talk for a bit, but she said she didn't want to talk to me.” Ouch!
“As she was trying to get in an elevator, I blocked her way. She just went to the stairs and headed downstairs,” he continued, adding how he literally had to beg her to take him back. “I don't know what got into me, but I just went on my knees then. I begged her not to leave me. I went down four floors with my knees down.”
Unfortunately, all of Kim Seon Ho’s efforts were futile. His ex-girlfriend was already set on ending things between the two of them, and there was nothing he could do to salvage the relationship. He said, “She was so cold to me though. She didn't even say a word until we reached the first floor.”
Looking back, the actor laughed things off while wrapping up his story. “I think I was too desperate at that time. It was probably because I was in the military,” he quipped.
Sigh! Can we all agree that this Good Boy deserves his happy ending? We're rooting for you, Ji Pyeong, err, Seon Ho! Fighting!
