You may know her as Bae Suzy’s antagonistic sister Won In-jae on Start-Up, but there’s a lot to more to Kang Ha Na than her haughty persona on the TVN series everyone's currently obsessed with. Whether you like or hate her character, we guarantee there’s definitely a lot to love when it comes to the real deal.
Here are 10 facts that new fans should know about Korean actress Kang Han Na:
1. She’s an Aquarius.
The 31-year-old actress was born on January 30, 1989, which makes her an Aquarius, in case you were wondering.
2. She’s a college graduate.
An intellectual and theather geek, Han Na graduated from Chun-Ang University in Seoul with a bachelor’s degree in Theater. Soompi notes that she most enjoyed acting in famous Russian playwright Anton Chekhov’s play The Seagull.
3. She’s on Instagram.
If you love seeing Han Na’s cherub-like face on your screen, then you might want to follow her Instagram account as well on @k_hanna_. The actress often posts selfies, along with pics of herself going about her daily schedules. She's even published photos of her behind-the-scenes from the Start-Up set.
4. She initially rose to fame because of Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo.
The actress debuted way back in 2013 with only a few minor roles to her name. She finally broke through the industry three years later when she played a recurring role on Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo with IU, Kang Ha Neul, and Lee Joon Gi. Here, she portrayed the antagonistic Hwangbo Yeon-hwa, for which she was nominated for the Best New Actress award in the 53rd Baeksang Arts Awards. Aside from this and Start-Up, other Kang Han Na dramas new fans can watch include Rain or Shine, Familiar Wife, and Designated Survivor: 60 Days. She's also appeared in several Korean movies including Empire of Lust, and No Tears for the Dead.
5. She’s also a Radio DJ.
Apart from acting, Han Na also doubles as a DJ for KBS’s radio show Volume Up. Han Na joined the long-running program on January of this year alongside fellow actress Yoo In Na, and Lee Soo Hyun of music duo AKMU. “I will work hard so that I can fill many listeners’ evenings with warmth and happiness through good music and stories,” Han Na promised listeners in a statement after the casting news was announced.
6. Her dream role is to act on a project based off William Shakespeare’s work.
In an interview with Littor Magazine, the theater graduate revealed her desire to appear as an actress in one of Shakespeare’s stories. “The lines in his stories are about thoughts regarding life and human nature, so I think it’s a project that can be expressed regardless of gender,” she explained.
7. She has a penchant for reading.
Along with her love for theater, Han Na is also fond of reading books. She even reads up on plays to prepare for her college admissions. “I feel shy because it’s my first time talking about books in an interview,” she said. “When I read, I develop new thoughts and words appear in a new way. I can feel my brain being stimulated.”
8. She’s managed by KeyEast Entertainment Agency.
After a controversial and highly publicized dispute between her and her past agency Fantagio back in 2019, Han Na finally ended her contract with the entertainment company in 2020,. She later on signed with management agency KeyEast, joining fellow actors Ju Ji Hoon, Kim Dong Wook, Kim Seo Hyung, Woo Do Hwan, and Moon Ga Young, among others.
9. She’s maintains a close friendship with IU.
Four years after the pair played enemies on Scarlet Heart Ryeo, Han Na and actress and singer IU remain good friends in real life, so much so that the two often meet up in search of good food. “She’s such a cute and lovely person. We both love to eat delicious food, so we meet up quite often and go hunting for good restaurants,” Han Na told BNT magazine.
10. She cut her hair for Start-Up.
In a press conference last October, Han Na revealed that Start-Up’s director Oh Choong Hwan and writer Park Hye Run asked the actress to chop off her long locks for the series. Thankfully, she had no qualms about fulfilling the request and just "went about it" and "had a haircut."
