Four years after the groundbreaking success of Goblin, it seems like Gong Yoo’s finally returning to our TV screens! And in a Netflix original, no less.
Korean website Naver reported on the exciting news yesterday, May 27. Titled the Sea of Silence, the upcoming series will star Gong Yoo alongside Kingdom’s Bae Doona, as well as Kim Sun Young and Heo Jeong Do.
Pegged as a sci-fi horror drama, the series features a dystopian Earth where water and food are scarce due to desertification and climate change. In a bid to survive, a group of elite agents are sent on a reconnaissance mission to an abandoned research base on the moon where they’re tasked to retrieve mysterious samples for analysis. It already sounds like a K-drama we haven't seen before, and we can't wait!
Gong Yoo will reportedly portray Yoon Jae Roo, a soldier of the aerospace department and the team leader to his crew dubbed the “Sea of Peace.” Meanwhile, Bae Doona will play a secret agent assigned to help out on their mission.
The Sea of Silence’s first season will run for eight episodes, to be produced by actor and model Jung Woo Sung, and to be written by Park Eun Kyo (Mother, Never Ending Story). Filming for the Netflix original will start this August.
