Mito Fabie, more popularly known by his stage name Curtismith, has long been a fixture in the Philippines’ independent music scene. But the rapper, singer, and songwriter recently made headlines beyond music—this time, for a milestone in his personal life.

In May 2025, he married singer-songwriter Leila Alcasid in an intimate wedding held in Australia, with both families in attendance. While the wedding caught attention, many are also curious about the groom himself. Here are five things to know about Curtismith.
Who Is Curtismith or Mito Fabie? 5 Things to Know About the Musician
1. His stage name was inspired by a billboard of Anne Curtis.
Curtismith is not a family name—nor is it randomly generated. It’s actually a satirical take on fame and perception. According to Young STAR, the name was born from a moment of reflection (and a bit of irony). Mito recalled seeing a billboard of Anne Curtis—actress, host, and a platinum-selling recording artist. “At that point in time, my belief was that her music did not get her that title, but rather it was who she was,” he shared. The name “Curtismith” became a tongue-in-cheek statement about recognition, artistry, and visibility in the music industry—an intentional move to keep the focus on the music, not the face behind it.

2. His music is personal, purposeful, and deeply introspective.
Curtismith’s discography is marked by a thoughtful, often confessional tone. As described by CNN Philippines, his songs are less about posturing and more about processing—ambition, frustration, growing up, and growing out of past selves. From his breakout mixtape “IDEAL” to EPs like “Soully, Yours” and “Failing Forward,” his lyrics often explore inner conflict, societal expectations, and personal growth.

Influenced by artists like Drake, Kid Cudi, Frank Ocean, and Kendrick Lamar, Curtismith uses a minimalist but emotionally charged soundscape to deliver verses that are both poetic and grounded. “Music was my older brother/younger brother,” he told When in Manila, describing it as an outlet that gave shape to solitude and self-expression.

3. He doesn’t conform to the traditional mold of a rapper.
Though he raps, Mito doesn’t see himself as fully part of the local hip-hop mainstream. “I don’t necessarily see myself as a part of the scene,” he said in an interview with CNN Philippines, noting that his influences were largely Western and that he never felt the need to fit a specific mold. Still, he’s respected as a key player in shaping the new wave of independent music in Manila—thanks in part to his work with the creative collective Logiclub and frequent collaborations with artists like CRWN and Jess Connelly.

This resistance to formula is also reflected in how he releases music. His early work was distributed for free, with no commercial intent. As he once put it to Young STAR, “If [profit] ever happens, then it’ll no longer be for the music but rather for the money.”

4. His creative process is emotion-led and moment-specific.
Curtismith’s songwriting often starts with a beat and evolves based on what the track evokes emotionally. “I like to capture the moment in that time of my life,” he told CNN Philippines. His EP “Soully, Yours” was structured around a timeline of infatuation, heartbreak, and healing.

This time-stamped approach makes each song feel like a journal entry—one that, years later, still speaks to where he was emotionally and mentally. He’s also conscious of how his music may impact others, particularly younger listeners, and often avoids glamorizing past vices. “If I’m to get [listeners] to do anything, it’d be to follow their passion,” he said.
5. He recently tied the knot with Leila Alcasid in Australia.
Curtismith and Leila Alcasid, both musicians and longtime collaborators, exchanged vows in a romantic outdoor ceremony in Australia in May 2025. The wedding brought together close friends and family, including Leila’s parents, Ogie Alcasid and Michelle van Eimeren. The couple’s relationship—once kept low-key—has grown in the public eye alongside their musical careers.
