Melanie Marquez revealed the physical and verbal abuses she allegedly experienced from her American husband, Adam “Randy” Lawyer. She spoke about the detrimental occurrences during her interview for Fast Talk with Boy Abunda in an episode that aired last Monday, January 5.
Melanie Marquez to File for Divorce Due to Alleged Physical and Verbal Abuse
The Miss International 1979 titleholder recounted multiple instances in which she said she experienced abuse from her husband. “I was verbally abused. Iniinsulto niya ako emotionally, financially, and mentally,” she said, referring to Randy, the father of Adam Jr. and Abraham, two of her six children.
She stressed that the alleged abuse did not begin recently. According to Melanie, during the early years of their marriage, Randy convinced her to work at a farm in Utah—an experience she claimed resulted in the loss of her unborn child at the time.
In 2022, Melanie further alleged that Randy pointed a gun at her. She also claimed that he punched her in the ear while she was sleeping, which led to a damaged eardrum. Melanie said she sought help from their barangay officials following the incident, after which Randy was asked to temporarily leave their shared home.
According to Melanie, the alleged abuse continued. She claimed that in 2025, Randy punched her in the chest, resulting in a fractured rib that left her unable to move for a period of time. She said she reported the incident to the police but ultimately chose to leave their home and file for a protection order instead of pursuing his arrest.
In her interview with Tito Boy Abunda, Melanie said she is now preparing to file for divorce. “Ang dami na niyang ginawa sa akin,” she said. She further alleged that her husband also hurt their son Adam Jr., as well as her child Mazen, who has autism.
When asked why she decided to speak up only now, Melanie explained that she had hoped to keep her family intact. “I really want a family,” she said. She added, “But I cannot take this—the abuse that he’s doing to me,” describing her husband as “a manipulative person.”

Melanie also shared an incident in which she said she was taken to a mental health facility in Pasig City on her birthday, though she did not specify the year it occurred. She described the experience as being brought to the facility against her will and claimed she was injected with medication that left her temporarily unable to move.
She declined to identify the individuals involved but suggested that they were people close to her, describing the incident as a “betrayal of trust.” According to Melanie, she was later transferred to a rehabilitation facility, where she said medical tests showed negative results and indicated that “na wala akong problema.”
Melanie said she stayed at the rehabilitation facility for eight months, during which time she struggled with depression. She also acknowledged that she had used drugs in her younger years, but emphasized that she stopped completely after becoming a mother.
Melanie concluded by saying that she prays “to be healed completely” because she deserves “peace of mind.”
Melanie Marquez’s Husband Denies Abuse Allegations
During an episode of Fast Talk with Boy Abunda that aired the following day, January 6, Tito Boy read a statement submitted to the program by Randy’s legal counsel, directly addressing and denying Melanie’s allegations.
In the statement, Atty. Jecko G. Bello wrote: “Our client, Mr. Adam Lawyer, categorically denies with the strongest terms the allegations thrown against him. Ms. Melanie has always been engaged in ostentatiously accusing Mr. Lawyer of abuse, but all of which were found to be baseless or unfounded by the proper forum. This is nothing but an act of harassment suffered by our client; an act of defamation on the part of Ms. Melanie.”
The same statement was also issued by Atty. Mitzell Arthur R. Magdaong and Atty. Isabel Perfetua P. Doctolero. According to the lawyers, “Ms. Marquez has a notorious history of hurling ostentatious, fabricated claims of abuse at Mr. Lawyer—every single one previously investigated and dismissed as baseless and unfounded by the appropriate authority/ies and forum/a.”
They further stated that the allegations constituted a “stunt” and described them as “malicious harassment, designed to inflict severe reputational damage, emotional distress, and professional harm” against their client. The lawyers added that Mr. Lawyer “will address the particularities of Ms. Marquez’s accusations against him before the Bureau of Immigration.”
