There’s nothing more synonymous with Christmas than setting up the ever-symbolic Tree. For most people, it’s a simple affair—a few family members get together for an afternoon of decorating. For celebrities, it’s a much different case. Oftentimes, they hire professional stylists to conceptualize and execute over-the-top design concepts. This year showed no shortage of that as some of our fave personalities teamed up with their favored decorators to make Christmas more magical, from teddy bear trees to flower-filled ones. Take a look for yourself!
How celebrities decorated their Christmas trees this 2021:
1. Bea Alonzo
Let’s start with a bang, shall we? Bea Alonzo decided to put up not one, now two, but three Christmas trees this year! With the help of event stylist and florist Gideon Hermosa, she designed each tree differently but still under one cohesive theme. They kept everything light and fresh with an abundant use of wispy dried flowers and dehydrated oranges. They then added some classic Christmas ornaments in neutral tones to finish off the look. Overall, the three-tree set up was a masterpiece that managed to look breathtaking, without being overwhelming.
2. Jennylyn Mercado
Jennylyn Mercado is one of those Christmas-loving women who decorates her tree well before the holiday season, and we’re all for it! In this Instagram post dated on October 10, the actress set up her tree with Gideon Hermosa. She kept it predominantly green with ornaments, decorative flowers, and wired ribbons. It was sprinkled with accents of rose gold for a little contrast. There were some notable features that definitely caught our eye—long white crystals (that looked like icicles dripping down the branches) and custom-made emerald gift boxes that completed the entire look.
3. Angel Locsin
It’s a special Christmas for Angel Locsin as it's the first time she’ll be celebrating the holiday as a married woman with husband Neil Arce. Ever the most practical woman on earth, Angel decided to revamp her existing tree (one that’s been in her life for 12 years) instead of spending on an entirely new setup. Together with event stylist Randy Lazaro, they embarked on an afternoon of DIY-ing to craft new decorations. In their vlog, you see them make everything from fabric-covered ornaments, like upcycling their old Christmas balls, and sprawling paper ribbons.
4. Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes
The Dantes family decided to create a children’s fairytale with a stuffed-toy-filled tree this year. With the help of event stylist Teddy Manuel, they loaded their Christmas tree with gold-bow-wearing teddy bears. As it was quite the unconventional design, it was complemented with a lot of traditional elements like red decorative flowers, candy-cane striped ornaments, and other neutral-colored Christmas balls.
5. Vicky Belo and Hayden Kho
If there’s someone who knows how to go over the top in everything she does, it’s Dra. Vicky Belo. She enlisted the help of New York-based studio Glitterville to create a Sugar Plum Fairy-inspired Christmas tree. It was covered in larger-than-life ornaments like unicorns, cupcake soldiers, cakes, and of course, a sugar plum fairy that stood in place of a star.
6. Gabbi Garcia
A lot of designers will lament that decorations should be a reflection of the homeowner, and there’s no better example of this than Gabbi Garcia’s Christmas tree this year. She partnered with event stylist Dave Sandoval and Bespoke Manila to design something that worked within her fresh, fun, and feminine aesthetic. Her tree featured purple and pink ornaments (the main color palette), and a lot of white decorative leaves. There were also some nutcrackers here and there that were, of course, clad in pink uniforms.
7. The Kramers
This year, the Kramers looked to Philippine culture for inspiration for their tree. As seen on their YouTube vlog, their ornaments included mini pamaypays, abaca-finished Christmas balls, and decorative anahaw. They kept it looking glamorous by incorporating some lustrous elements like golden ornaments, glittering twigs, and champagne-colored ribbons. Overall, it was a study on flawlessly blending aesthetics to create a beautiful Christmas tree—you’d never guess that it wasn’t done by a professional decorator!
8. Alex Gonzaga
Now there were a few celebrities who made Christmas tree-decorating a low-profile affair, one of which was Alex Gonzaga. In her vlog, she gathered her parents and uncle to adorn the tree in their family home. They designed their tree with metallic flowers, ribbons, and Christmas balls in silver and rose gold. What made it unique was definitely the scale of the ornaments, which were quite oversized and made the tree stand out more.
