You Need to Fall in Love With Exercising for It to Work, Research Says You have to put your heart into it.

According to Michelle Segar of the University of Michigan, the author of No Sweat: How the Simple Science of Motivation Can Bring You a Lifetime of Fitness, if you want to lose weight or to be fit or healthy, then you shouldn't make any of those your goal.

The goal to be fit, healthy, or lighter doesn't motivate us. In her study, she found that people who had those goals were actually the ones who exercised the least, compared to people who just worked out because they love it.

"Human beings, it turns out, are hardwired to choose immediate gratification over long-term benefits," she explains. And for most of us, our own willpower isn't enough. Our heart has to be in place, too.

But how can you force yourself to like exercising if you really don't like it? Think of the runner's high, the happiness coursing through your body right after a good run. Take up a sport and focus on competing or winning. Hike with your friends to bond with them more and to enjoy the view. Whatever it is you think of, as long as it's something that makes you feel happy, latch on to it and make that the reason why you step into your rubber shoes. Then ultimately, if you love something, you'll make time for it.
