You really need to show more skin. By that, we mean your face. The new foundation formulas are less of a mask and more of real textures, so play up your complexion with a natural finish.

A soft, cushy matte is the fresher way to wear the shine-free finish. Sweep on Bobbi Brown's Skin Weightless Powder Foundation (P2250, Rustan's) with a fluffy brush, not a compact sponge. Best paired with a velvet nude pout, subtle smoke on the lid and a second-day blowout.

If you've read that the dewy look is back, know that it actually never left. This season it's sporty—the natural shine you'd get if you've been out running (or that glowy moment right after you've finished applying skin care). Bobbi Brown's Illuminating Face Base (P2700, Rustan's) is hydration times a hundred.

Here's a new buzzword: illuminating. It's basically highlighting, only done strictly with powders. It withstands humidity and gives leeway for eventual, heat-acquired natural shine (makeup can be so climate-dependent). Create satin skin by starting with a matte base, then swirl your medium-sized fluffy brush in Bobbi Brown's Brightening Brick (P2650, Rustan's) and accentuate the high planes of your face.

Skin like cashmere, that's the new faux naturel. It's matte, but it's a went-for-a-walk-at-4-in-the-afternoon kind of matte. It's a lightweight powder. It's lived in. It's less rigorous than a matte that would rather come out at night, to a party, with the smokey eye. It gives you freedom to use some cream blush like Bobbi Brown's Pot Rouge for Lips and Cheeks in Uber Beige (P1550, Rustan's), which is close to nude but still leaves a little flush.
