Here's why you should try it, too!

Last year, #BeautyTok went crazy over purple blush. The seemingly unconventional color got everyone’s attention by rivaling our go-to red and pink shades, claiming to be just as flattering. And while the hype may have died down, we’re here to bring it back into the spotlight. Why? Because we feel that purple blush is a match made in heaven for Filipino skin.

To get technical: on the color wheel, yellow and purple are opposite of each other—making the hues complementary. Meaning, when the colors are mixed together they cancel one another out (think purple color-correcting primers; they neutralize any yellow-ness allowing your skin to appear brighter). But when used on top of the other, the colors get enhanced, resulting in the most natural flush.

Moral of the story: theoretically, those with yellow undertones and purple blush are an undeniable combination—and that’s precisely what we'll be putting to the test!

How does purple blush look on Filipino skin?

Before we take a deep-dive into purple blush, let me tell you a bit about my skin. For reference, I use the Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation in the shade 2,5N. My veins also are greenish in color, which tells me that I have a warm, yellow undertone.

To better see how the color blends into my skin tone, I chose not to wear wear any foundation. I only had my skincare and a little undereye concealer and soap brows on my face. For reference, I used Strokes Beauty Lab's Crush Blush in Fatale for this test.

Application

I wanted to see how the blush blends with fingertips and a brush. I gently tapped the product with my fingertips on my right cheek, bringing the color towards my temples, to disperse the product. On the left cheek, I used a brush, softly stippling  in light circular motions to incorporate the blush into my skin. No matter which method you prefer, you’re bound to get a gorgeous result!

The Actual Color

Once blended, the grape shade melded into a gorgeous flushed pink. The color does a great job of adding warmth and color to my face without looking like clown makeup. It 100% reminds me of being sun-kissed from the beach!

Final Thoughts

I wish I got my hands on purple blush sooner! With this shade on my cheeks, you would think that I just have a post-run flush. Also, the fact that this is what purple blush looks like with minimal makeup, imagine how gorgeous the shade would be with a full face! #BeautyTok was right; red and pink blushes better watch out, because purple blush is looking to be the newest makeup must-have.
