While social media has its benefits, we can’t deny the pressures and the beauty standards that now come with it. Ever had a moment where you scrutinized a picture of yourself for a long time before uploading it? Or maybe you felt hesitant about posting that cute beach pic? So have we, and there’s a chance people you know may have felt the same way too—influencers being no exception.

Ahead, you'll find seven times that local influencers taught us to be confident in our skin; reminding us that whatever insecurities we may have, it doesn’t take away from our natural beauty.

1. Rei Germar

Rei Germar is no stranger to experimenting with her style, but in one of her Instagram posts, she revealed that it’s actually a challenge for her to show skin in her outfits. Despite this, Rei wisely affirms that she dresses up for herself and no one else. She then reminded us to “dress how you want, as long as it makes you feel good!”, and we totally agree!

2. Angel Dei

3. Mae Layug

In 2021, beauty influencer and GWRM Cosmetics founder Mae Layug opened up about her long bout with acne by posting a barefaced photo on the 'gram.

She wrote, "I’ve been suffering from acne since it got triggered in 2018. In addition to that, I have a very oily skin, making me more prone to having breakouts. And if you’ve been following me since then, you know how we struggled treating it. It wasn’t easy and it was expensive.

"I’ve tested a lot of products and went to different dermatologists. It was when I had a consultation with a dermatologist that it got better—gradually," she continued.

So if you're struggling with your skin, too, don’t be discouraged. According to Mae, just be patient and trust the process. With a pro's help, your acne journey will get better over time!

4. Janina Vela

Let's be real: No one’s skin is perfectly clear and smooth. We need to see more real skin on social media, and content creator Janina Vela would definitely agree.

In an Instagram post, Janina shared how her skin has always been her insecurity growing up, but it didn’t stop her from loving her natural beauty. She showed off her skin’s “honest texture” in a collection of close-up photos with this important reminder: “Pores are NORMAL. Whiteheads and blackheads are NORMAL. Discoloration is NORMAL. Acne is NORMAL.”

Like Janina, Michelle Dy has flaunted her natural skin on Instagram to make a statement. She reminded everyone that acne, pores, and skin texture are normal and nothing to be ashamed of, captioning her post, “I’m here to let you know that 'It’s Ok [emoji]'”. After posting her photos, Michelle also encouraged other beauty vloggers to post the same message for their followers!

7. Ayn Bernos

Miss Universe Philippines 2021 candidate Ayn Bernos has been making serious waves ever since her beauty pageant debut. And like the true queen she is, she endlessly advocates for body positivity and self-confidence. For example, Ayn once posted a picture of her in a bikini with the caption: “Bikini photos are not new to me — I used to post them ALL the time pre-pandemic, even way before I got back into fitness.

"So before you think 'I’m going to post this too when I reach my fitness goals,' let me tell you that you don’t need to wait! Celebrate your body at every stage.”

She then happily states that she’ll strive to stay happy and take care of her body no matter the circumstances. So well said, Ayn!
