FYI, she also doesn’t care if you comment that she’s “too thin.”

“Yeah, right, whatever.” said Kris Bernal in a seemingly normal OOTD post. But her caption went on to reveal a lot more than to simply complement her ab-baring ‘fit.

The actress has had her fair share of hate comments. Being at the receiving end of unsolicited statements of criticism for her clothes and mostly her appearance, she has often times ignored them and replied with humor. But this time, Kris chose to answer back with a response that we can’t help but applaud.

My purpose is way bigger than anyone's opinion of me. And, I will never sacrifice who I am because someone else has a problem with it. In a time when emotional and mental wellbeing are gravely impacted, I hope more people will normalize our bodies for keeping us alive (No matter what shape it's in!). Normalize shunning "beauty standards" because there's none. We are all strong and beautiful just as we are.” she wrote on Instagram.

"I work hard. I am responsible. I dress well to feel better. I put myself together every morning. I workout to improve my mental health, mood, and physique. I manage my money. I pay my bills. I run my businesses on my own finding out my greater purpose of providing jobs. I am educated and respectful. I have visions and plans for the future. Who doesn't value those, doesn't deserve me. Love and light!"

Whenever she posts a swimsuit OOTD or workout photo, netizens always zero in on her weight and size. Remarking with comments that say she’s “too thin,” “looks old,” and even referring to her as a “skeleton.” Despite all this, Kris has gone on to continually reassure people that she is healthy and strong. Her workout and diet regimen is strict and intense, leaving her body to be lean and muscular. Being petite, her lack of body fat obviously makes her look slim and compact but not at all sickly.

But the issue Kris has raised in this post is less about her and more about how people on the internet can’t seem to stop discussing women’s bodies even when their opinion isn’t warranted. She definitely isn’t the first actress to speak up and clap back at people online who can’t seem to stop body-shaming or are unconsciously aware of doing so.

Actress Iza Calzado has spearheaded body positivity talks through She Talks Asia, while young mom and former actress Andi Eigenmann has always been candid on social media about her body’s transformations through her pregnancy and weight gain. We also have models like Kelsey Merritt, who admits to prefer her unedited photos that show off her stretch marks and all, and most recently, Selena Gomez launched her swimsuit campaign that was devoid of heavy editing to show her real curves.

Thank you, Kris, for sharing such an empowering caption that all women needed to hear. We can only hope for the day when a girl’s weight and appearance would stop being a topic of gossip and hate, and instead be celebrated for what is just is—whether or not they fit into a “beauty standard.”
