Hidilyn Diaz is living proof that strength and athleticism chooses no gender. She made history for the Philippines by winning our first Olympic gold medal, in a male-dominated sport like weightlifting, no less!
With that, there's no denying that Hidilyn is out to break barriers not only for female athletes but women as a whole. And as the new Belo ambassador, she's also on a mission to prove that you don't need to choose between being strong and being beautiful—because you can always be both.
In an interview for Belo, Hidilyn spoke about being stereotyped as a female athlete. "Parang may stereotype na pag nasa sports ka, mga lalaki lang," she said. "Minsan [sinasabi] na, 'ah, boyish yan, kaya nasa sports na ‘yan.' Hindi, eh. Babae po kami, at nag-eexcel po kami sa sports...Walang gender ang sports."
And for Hidilyn, a part of being a strong woman is confidence or proudly "showing what you got." She explains, "Kasi minsan, nali-limit tayo, na sinasabi na eto lang tayo. Dito lang tayo. Dapat 'di tayo lumabas. E, babae kami. Tao din kami. So pinapakita lang natin na magaling din tayo, at malakas tayo."
In the ad, the 30-year-old Olympian showed off her stunning physique in high-shine, figure-hugging dresses in what's now her signature color, gold. She also looked dazzling in a sleek ponytail and a red lip—not that we're surprised, of course!
With the tagline "flex your beauty," the Belo campaign spotlights Hidilyn as the face of the clinic's new Advalight Laser, which she credits for her glowing skin! "After 'nung first session, nakita ko gumanda 'yung skin ko. Mas naging smooth na siya, mas naging clear. Gusto ko magtuloy-tuloy ng sessions," she shares.
On Instagram, Dr. Vicki Belo wrote a special message for the Olympian to officilly welcome her to the Belo family. She wrote, "She lifted us up when we needed it most, and now, it's our turn to watch as she embraces her strength and beauty. We're proud of you Hidilyn!"
