Full, youthful, and rosy cheeks can be achieved through the boyfriend blush—a ‘90s makeup technique that resurfaced in 2024 and never left the beauty trends since.

On May 30, 2025, the renowned celebrity makeup artist Thazzia Falek shared insider tips on how to achieve the look more seamlessly. She specifically presented a demonstration at Bobbi Brown’s launch of the Pot Rouge Velvet Matte, a new version of the iconic Pot Rouge.

This time, it has a cream-to-powder formula that gives a soft and airbrushed look. The buildable and lightweight blush is more friendly for the tropical climate, being able to last on the cheeks for eight hours. Did we mention you can use it on your lips, too?

The Pot Rouge Velvet Matte now caters to more skin tones as it’s available in 12 shades. With its new texture and finish, the blush has become a must-have for Thazzia, who expressed her adoration for the product because “it has a velvet and matte finish, pero hindi siya yung over shiny.”

Thazzia Falek’s Tips for Achieving the Boyfriend Blush
For the exclusive demonstration, Thazzia’s muse was none other than the internet darling, Mimiyuuh. Her base was done by the make-up artist beforehand, and they let us in on some beauty tips that can improve your take on the trend. In Thazzia’s words, “You can never have enough blush.”

Apply the blush two fingers away from the corner of your lips.
Blush is commonly applied on the temples of the face, but the boyfriend blush goes in a v-shape that starts near the depth of your cheekbones (where contour usually goes). For better placement, close your index finger and your middle finger together, and position them on the corner of your lips. That should be where your boyfriend blush ends. Make sure to blend the edges to make it look more seamless and natural.
Alternate between a brush and your fingers to blend the blush.
Before applying, Thazzia warmed up the product on the back of her hand. Warmth helps cream products melt and apply more smoothly, and using both a brush and your fingers to put them on and blend helps maintain that.
Use multiple shades of blush.
With Mimiyuuuh being a proud morena, Thazzia opted for Warm Mocha as the first blush shade that took on the famous v-shape of the boyfriend blush. She followed this with a mix of Pomegranate and Soft Plum, which were applied on the apples of Mimiyuuuh’s cheeks to bring out the dimension of her face. By dabbing the blush on instead of sweeping, a diffused ombre blush look was achieved. Feel free to put a dash of color on your lips and on your chin, too!
