Makeup Artists Share Their Favorite Underrated Makeup Products

1. Make Up For Ever Mist & Fix Setting Spray

"I used to not believe in setting sprays. I thought they were gimmicky, but I changed my mind when the pandemic hit and we all have to wear masks now. I tried the Make Up For Ever Mist & Fix Setting Spray and I found that it was the only setting spray I've used that actually makes a difference. It extends my makeup's wear time by a few hours and it even helps lessen transfer on my mask. It also holds up really well in our unpredictable climate. I use it on my clients, too, just to make sure their makeup stays on all day." - Chab Ocampo (@chabocampo)

2. Stila One Step Correct Skin Tone Correcting & Brightening Primer

"This product is underrated kahit ako dinededma ko lang siya dati, but it is now a staple in my kit. When doing makeup, skincare preps usually consume a lot of time, but I now get to skip that part all thanks to this product. It corrects, brightens, and highlights the skin just like the effects of skincare, and it works amazing as a primer, too! I've already tested and proven its effects, and the makeup really stays put for a long time. This product is also perfect if you're lazy and on-the-go, but of course if you have time for skincare, prioritize that first." - Mark Qua (@mkqua)

3. Shu Uemura The Lightbulb UV Compact

"The most underrated makeup product for me is a dual powder foundation or also known as the wet/dry foundation like the Shu Uemura Lightbulb UV Compact with SPF 30. It is perfect for people on the go and don’t have time to do their entire base routine. It’s also a one-stop-shop makeup product that has SPF which I never leave home without. I like this because you can apply it with a wet sponge, beauty blender or a wet synthetic makeup brush which keeps the skin dewy and not too matte. I let it set, then get a concealer brush to go over the blemishes by doing a dry application. It keeps zits and discoloration even and it won’t budge until your mid-day retouch." - Xeng Zulueta (@xengzulueta)

4. Romand Better Than Light Palette in #00 Light & Glitter

"One underrated makeup product I’ve tried is the Romand Better Than Palette in #00 Light and Glitter. These glitter shadows need more hype because I’ve been using them as sparkle toppers to any eyeshadow look. It’s a perfect addition to your makeup kit this coming holiday season." - Mila Gulfan (@milagulfan)

5. Fashion 21 Double Up Mascara

"I have my favorite mascaras from brands that are well-known for it. They all deliver in giving natural defined lashes without smudging, and that’s all we thought we need and want from a mascara. The thing about mascara in general is it gets spoiled fast, [often] before you even finish the entire product. The moment the wand gets exposed to air, the product dries up and the quality deteriorates! This applies even to the most expensive ones that I used.

"I recommend the Double-Up Mascara from Fashion 21, because it does all the things that I want in a mascara same or even better than the more popular brands, but its way better because the freshness or quality of the product lasts way longer." - Gery Peñaso (@gerypenaso)

6. Avon Pro Line Lip Perfector in Rock On

"My most underrated makeup product is an Avon red-orange lip pencil. Aside from keeping the lipstick in place for hours, correcting your lip shape, and preventing color from feathering, I use this pencil to color-correct minor blemishes like rocea, pimple, small birthmarks, and moles. It's very ideal to spot correct since its a pencil and its very stable to hold for tiny problem areas. I can even use it to color correct dark under eye circles if I didn't have orange pigments. The red-orangey hue in this pencil is ideal to camouflage and neutralize darkness, perfect under your favorite concealer or foundation. Since most lip pencil are silicone heavy, it [glides on] matte and it stays longer than regular color correctors." - Bobby Carlos (@im_bobbycarlos)

7. Teviant Florid Cheek Palette

"In the past, I was always in the hunt for pink undertoned highlighters. Most people don't really pay attention to a pink highlighters, but it's actually one of those secret to achieve that 'Albert Kurniawan bridal glow.' I like to apply it on the cheek area or apply it under any blush. It gives a natural glow and parang under the skin ang effect ng glow niya. Sometimes, people cannot tell if you have any product or not, since it's very light pink it bounces light. When I had my own brand, Teviant, I made sure to carry a pink highlighter, we call it Florid. It's a two pan palette with two different finishes to give you freedom [to choose] according to your mood." - Albert Kurniawan (@albertkurniawan)
