“Who’s ready for a new Ash?” was the question accompanying Ashley Ortega’s Instagram Reel back in December 2025. In the short video, the actress debuted her micro bangs—a fresh look for the actress that effectively darkened her aura.

The change was prompted by her role in the psychological thriller and family-centered drama, Apoy sa Dugo. In the latest episode of Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Ashley addressed criticism about her new look.

Together with her co-star Pinky Amador, Ashley shared the preparations they undertook for the intriguing series. For the uninitiated, Ashley plays Angel, a character with a destructive obsession over her loved ones.

As the antagonist, she asked herself, “If they put me in a room full of kontrabidas, how can I stand out on my own?”

She shared that she aimed to embody this in different ways, including the physical sense. “I changed my look also, kaya [ako] nag pa-micro bangs.” She continued, “Ang dami nga nagsasabi na ang pangit daw pala ng look ko, but that’s the point.”

For Ashley, her goal was to switch her image because her character had to look “weird” and “unstable.” Tito Boy noted that the different, darker aura was impossible to disregard, and for Ashley, that means she hit her goal—even if others will think negatively of her look.

The 27-year-old shared that her current ‘do is far from the “clean girl, soft girl aesthetic” that she personally loves, but she didn’t mind straying away from it. “Gusto ko kasi talaga matanggal 'yung image na yun sa’kin when I do this show.”

Tito Boy exclaimed, “‘Yan ang artista!”

Veteran actress Pinky also noted that “that’s the research part,” pointing out how essential it is when preparing for any role. Ashley concluded by saying that she aims to present Angel as an antagonist that’s not merely there to be hated on. Rather, she is multi-dimensional, with some facets worth loving.

Bangs will always be in style. With many variations, there's one that suits every face shape. Micro bangs, in particular, complement inverted triangle, oval, and round faces especially well.

This kind of fringe usually falls just an inch or two below the hairline—think full bangs, shortened. The miniature length is great for flaunting your facial features, especially the arches of your brows. Overall, it makes for a look that's bold and edgy, enough to make a statement.
