3INA's The Cream Eyeshadow in 313 has been chosen by the Preview team as the Best Eyeshadow of 2019. This and 24 other products were reviewed by 25 real girls for this year's Preview Girls' Choice Awards to see if they truly deserved their title. Ahead, writer Janica Balasolla gives us her thoughts on the product:
The Product: 3INA The Cream Eyeshadow in 313
What It Is:
A waterproof cream eyeshadow with intense color payoff and metallic, shimmery, magnetic shades that were made to last all day. The shade 313 is a neutral gold.
I use eyeshadow on a daily basis. I mainly use neutrals (peanut, tortilla browns) for contouring my crease and coffee brown for the edge of my crease. For eyeshadow quality, I like something that's pigmented but doesn’t fall out. I have really oily lids and until now I haven’t found an eyeshadow that doesn’t “cake” after a long day of blinking.
My usual makeup routine usually focuses on the eyes; there’s a lot of lining and careful blending involved even if it’s just for everyday makeup. I make sure that my brows look filled, too. Honestly, I don’t use shimmers that much (and cream eyeshadows for that matter) because shimmers just shrink the space of my eyelids and cream eyeshadows don’t really go well with my oily lids. But when I feel extra, I apply shimmers.
How I Used It:
I have tried metallic/shimmery cream eyeshadows before but never on a daily basis. When I opened this one, I thought it was expired at first because it had a distinct smellâ —like crayons. And when I swatched it, it seemed too creamy for me, so I thought this product was not going be different from the others I’ve tried before.
For my first impressions, I thought the packaging and the logo were nice, but I had to search for "3ina” before realizing it's read as "MINA." When I took some product from the jar, it was creamy and the color looked warm. It had good color payoff and pigmentâ —a little goes a long way. The shade 313 is versatile, too. I actually first thought of using it as highlighter rather than eyeshadow, and that's what I did!
I used it at work for three consecutive days. I tried several application methods: I applied it with my fingers and no primer on the first day, applied it with a concealer brush the next, and the third day with a small sponge. I wore it with my usual makeup but on one day I tried pairing it with blue eyeliner concoction I created with blue mascara and blue powder eyeshadow. It was a stunner!
For this eyeshadow, one swipe is actually enough if you apply it correctly. I made the mistake of putting too much on my lids at first that when the eyeshadow set, it felt like it was glued to my lids and it was hard to blink and remove. So, please learn from my mistake and only take a tiny amount and warm it up with your finger before putting on your eyes.
After that eyeshadow disaster, I learned to control the amount I applied and it turned out to create a subtle metallic eye makeup look that's good for daytime. It would also work for nighttime if I contoured my eyes more intensely.
Overall, this 3INA eyeshadow just might be the best cream eyeshadow I’ve tried so far. A little amount goes a long way, and it was able to withstand my oily lids to an extent. I would recommend it to anyone with oily lids like mine who is looking for a cream eyeshadow that could stay put for seven hours or more. Because I don’t usually use metallic shades, I could just use it as highlighter when I don't feel like using shimmer on my eyes.
