Even fashion’s most polished figures have their off-duty secrets, and Victoria Beckham confirmed one of hers. The designer revealed on a recent podcast that one of her most iconic early-2000s handbags wasn’t designer at all, but a very convincing fake.
Victoria Beckham on Carrying a Fake Louis Vuitton Bag
During her chat with Call Her Daddy host Alexandra Cooper, the former Spice Girl revisited one of her most recognizable looks from the early aughts, with a photo of her and David Beckham walking through London, dressed in coordinated white outfits. Hanging from her hand was what appeared to be the Louis Vuitton Graffiti Alma, the era’s most sought-after bag. But as Victoria revealed, that memorable LV moment wasn’t quite what it seemed. “It was fake,” she said with a laugh, explaining that the piece hadn’t come from the brand at all.

The photo, as she recalled, was taken while the couple was shopping on Bond Street. It eventually caught the attention of Marc Jacobs, then Louis Vuitton’s creative director, who reached out after spotting the image. According to Victoria, he told her he’d send over the real thing. “Not as posh as you think,” she joked, poking fun at her famously polished persona.
The Louis Vuitton Alma Bag
Louis Vuitton’s Graffiti collection was one of the most memorable fashion statements of the early aughts. Designed in collaboration between Marc Jacobs and artist Stephen Sprouse for the Spring/Summer 2001 show, the collection splashed bold lettering across the brand’s signature monogram canvas. The Alma bag, in particular, became a cult favorite and helped redefine what luxury could look like in the new millennium.
Back in 2005, outlets reported Marc Jacobs confirming the story, recalling how he sent Victoria an authentic version once he realized she’d been photographed with a knockoff. “It’s not like I’m a big Posh Spice fan,” he joked, “but it was kind of funny.” The two eventually became friends, with Marc Jacobs referencing the moment again in a 2013 interview with WWD.
