It’s been more than two weeks since Met Gala 2022 took place, but we’re still not over the memorable red carpet looks donned by Hollywood’s brightest stars at the iconic fashion event—-from Kim Kardashian who stunned onlookers with a legendary Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress to Blake Lively, who was a vision in a color-changing, Manhattan-inspired number.
Joining the list of celebrities who staged show-stopping moments is Vanessa Hudgens, who brought her own A-game to the “Gilded Glamour” theme, dressed to the nines in a sheer black ensemble courtesy of American fashion designer Jeremy Scott.
The actress, who is well-known for her Netflix Christmas films and her lead role opposite Zac Efron in High School Musical, shared the meaning behind her dress in an Instagram post.
Fun fact: She proudly owned up to her Filipino heritage via a sweet little detail! “I was so obsessed with this dress (still am) for so many reasons,” she wrote. “A. It was designed by a friend Jeremy Scott who knows the real me; B. The silhouette is actually historically correct for the Gilded Age theme; C. I got to be the glamorous witch that I am; and D. The puff sleeve pays homage to my Filipino heritage.”
Looking at it closely, the larger-than-life puff detail certainly resembles the classic butterfly sleeves of a terno, a traditional Filipino clothing that our countrymen take pride in wearing!
Proudly speaking more about her Filipina roots, Vanessa shared late last year that her dream project is to make a film about her immigrant Filipina mom. “As an immigrant, coming into the States and not knowing anyone, I can’t even imagine how difficult and challenging that is and what challenges she faced as a woman. I feel like that’s such a relatable story to so many women.”
