Shoes can either make or break an outfit so it’s vital that we choose the right pair that will seamlessly go with any ensemble. For local shoe brand Tutum, their range of footwear is meant to be exactly the missing piece to one’s outfit. "Our fun flats and sexy heels can make any outfit look of-the-moment. Day or night, our shoes fit the fast-paced lifestyle of girls and women who knows fashion and like to express their personality through style, all at an accessible price,” founder Jerella Cates Uy explains.

What is Tutum?

While the name Tutum might sound offbeat, it actually comes from the Turkish word that means ‘attitude.’” It's a fitting name as their pairs can certainly add flair to even your most mundane outfits! Need a little more convincing? Tutum’s pairs are actually adored even by local celebrities like Alexa Ilacad and Nadine Lustre, to name a few.

How did Tutum Start?

It was never in Jerella’s wildest dream to ever start a shoe brand despite always having a natural affinity towards footwear at a young age. An early memory she could recall as a kid was walking around her house wearing her mother’s pumps. In her college days, the young CEO was a frequent visitor of local bazaars to check out all they had to offer. “I'm always present at the bazaars in Rockwell to buy trendy and affordable locally-made shoes. I'm constantly updated on local shoe brands on social [media].” It was only during a chance encounter with a shoemaker after college that she warmed up to the idea of starting her own brand and thus, Tutum was born.

Of course, no company doesn’t have its own set of challenges. During their early years, Jerella shared that one of their biggest problems was customer service. With her focus being on her family at that time, Jerella left most of the business's day-to-day operations to some staff that didn’t meet her expectations. “I realized I didn't have time with Tutum since I was pregnant with a toddler. [Then] I realized [that] I should put up a Shopee store. It made our life easier, especially during the pandemic [when] and I needed to balance family and business [since I didn’t] want to lose Tutum,” the CEO shared with Preview
