At this year's SONA, Tootsy Angara and Heart Evangelista wore a common accessory, which stood out on their all-white looks. The two wore a rainbow pin, symbolic of their support of the Anti-Discrimination Bill, also known as the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) Equality Bill, that aims to protect people against sex and gender-related discrimination.
"Everyone has the right to live, work, and dream. The SOGIE bill is a step in the right direction to guarantee the protection of those rights," writes Heart in an Instagram post. She continues by saying that she and her husband Senator Chiz Escudero are in full support of the bill and are hoping for it to be passed as a law.
Tootsy, who is wife to Senator Sonny Angara, expressed the same message on her social media. "Wearing this pin to show my all out support for the Anti Discrimination Bill as I join the call to fight for equality and end all forms of discrimination," she captions her post.
The bill has already been passed in the Congress but has yet to be approved by the Senate. Hence, to push for its enactment, a social media campaign called #LoveIsAllWeNeed was launched. The goal of the campaign is to appeal to Philippine senators, by having supporters write a message of love about the bill's importance to their chosen senator via social media. See more guidelines for the campaign below:
Once enacted, the SOGIE equality bill will help protect everyone, particularly those in the LGBTQIA+ community, from being discriminated against and denied their basic rights as citizens because of their sex, gender, or gender expression.
