It’s a given: Pia Wurtzbach sure knows how to dress for an occasion! After embodying Barbiecore for her pre-birthday shoot, 2015’s Miss Universe echoed another vintage icon for the actual event. (Hint: It’s her dress!)
LOOK: Pia Wurtzbach vintage Paco Rabanne-inspired chainmail dress
For her second look of the night, the Preview 50 Most Influential awardee strutted down her 33rd birthday celebration all-decked out in '70s groovy chic. Paired with a feather boa and matching strappy heels, stylist Perry Tabora’s pièce de résistance was the glitzy chainmail dress, sourced from a store in Gangnam, South Korea.

Apropos of the mirror ball motif, the design reflected an iconic piece from legendary Spanish-born fashion designer Paco Rabanne. The experimental artist is best known for his retro-futuristic pieces, crafted in plastic and silver-toned metal that resembled modern armor. His chainmail designs have been donned by the biggest stars of the '60s and '70s, including Audrey Hepburn, Françoise Hardy, and Jane Fonda!
The 1966 mini dress could be the piece that represented this aesthetic the best, with its iridescent plastic discs and metal jump rings. If you’re looking for a statement piece, this was the go-to '60s look since it was usually worn over the naked body without any shoes!

The original piece is currently housed by the Costume Institute at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. However, you can still cop a similar dress from Paco Rabanne’s fashion house. Check it out below!

Mini dress made with round mirror-effect plates, €2,950 (approx. P168,361), PACO RABANNE, pacorabbane.com.
