NFL Athlete Nikko Remigio Sports a Modern Barong for Filipino-American History Month

Every October, Filipino Americans celebrate Filipino-American History Month as a way to honor their community’s history, culture, and achievements.

In observance of the occasion, National Football League (NFL) athlete Nikko Remigio of the Kansas City Chiefs paid homage to his Filipino heritage through his game day outfit.

Ahead of his first game of the month, the wide receiver arrived at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, wearing a modern barong before his team’s matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Filipino-American football player wore a short-sleeved barong from Preview Best Filipino Fashion Designers (BFFD) honoree Kelvin Morales’ 2024 Vibrations collection, accessorizing it with sleek sunglasses and a gold chain necklace. Made from silk cocoon, the garment features an asymmetrical arrangement of cylindrical shapes across its boxy silhouette.

To sharpen the relaxed cut, he paired the top with black tailored trousers and patent leather loafers. Nikko completed the ensemble with his travel essentials: a structured black top-handle bag and a sleek Rimowa carry-on suitcase.

In 2024, Kelvin Morales launched his full menswear line, which includes the barong Nikko wore.

Inspired by the electric atmosphere of a techno party, the collection took shape after the designer noticed metal sheets on a DJ booth vibrating. This observation led him to develop a technique he calls “web calado,” a defining accent of the line.
