The hotter season of the year is officially in full swing, and for fashion publications, that inevitably signals the arrival of summer covers. Resortwear often takes center stage during this time of year, with editorials filled with tropical motifs, airy textiles, vibrant swimwear, and breezy silhouettes.

However, for our latest cover story starring perennial fashion girl Mimiyuuuh, we wanted to take a different approach to summer dressing, moving beyond lightweight fabrics and beach-ready staples. Instead, the goal was to channel the joy of maximalist, unapologetic dressing: sweeping proportions, an interplay of clashing prints, and an unmistakable sense of glamour.

It was especially exciting to collaborate with Assoc. Creative Director Jana Jodloman, who envisioned the cover as a way to capture Mimi’s personality—someone who always seems completely immersed in her own world and having the best time while doing so.

Against the backdrop of what resembles a quiet suburban town, we thought it would be especially fitting to dress Mimi in theatrical shapes and dramatic ensembles. Hence, the overall fashion direction for this month’s cover is what we like to call “exaggerated summerwear.”

The Styling Behind Mimiyuuuuh's May 2026 Preview Cover Shoot

On the cover

The cover image shows Mimi standing inside an inflatable mini pool, dressed in a sculptural drop-waist dress from independent Filipino label Monohomme Studios, helmed by designer Mikayl Trinidad.

Fresh from his latest womenswear collection, the structured piece features a boned, dark denim bodice with a scooped neckline, accented by green feathered dahlias placed on each shoulder. The midi silhouette opens into a voluminous moss-green skirt crafted from beaded floral lace, with exaggerated hips that heighten the garment’s dramatic shape.

In hand, Mimi carries Jonathan Anderson–era Loewe heels, characterized by a protruding Monstera-shaped petal detail.

Mimi has always embraced a more lighthearted and playful approach to dressing. For this shoot, it felt important to incorporate pieces from her personal wardrobe into the overall styling.

The inside layouts:

Did you know that during her time as a fashion student, Mimi once interned for designer Mark Bumgarner? As she fronts her second solo cover for Preview, it felt especially fitting to dress her in one of his creations. Fortunately, this voluminous mint-green piece from his latest couture presentation aligned perfectly with the brief.

In many ways, the look captures the spirit of “exaggerated summerwear,” defined by a swimsuit-like low halter neckline, with a streamlined bodice that falls into a voluminous drop-waist bubble skirt.

Framed against a red barn house, we thought it would be fun to photograph Mimi carrying her grey pigeon purse from J.W. Anderson, too.

For the second layout, we wanted to explore something with more movement. We opted for a printed crochet sweater from the H&M Studio archives, which we had Mimi wear backwards to create a cleaner front profile.

The ensemble was paired with a white teacup skirt from Monohomme Studios, oversized red sunglasses from Celine sourced through Vision Express, and Mimi’s iconic balloon pumps from Loewe.

Elsewhere, we experimented with the idea of pairing two different prints together. Here, Mimi wears a full look from Ganni: a cheetah-print long-sleeve top styled with barrel-cut jeans made from floral brocade.

To elevate the outfit further, we incorporated Mimi’s own accessories—a black leather belt, silver-plated earrings from Bottega Veneta, white Prada pumps, and the ultimate pièce de résistance: her new newspaper clutch from Moschino.

In the next layout, Mimi wears a full ensemble from Gucci’s Pre-Fall collection, Generation Gucci. The look consists of a floral silk shirt paired with a pleated midi skirt covered in the house’s iconic Flora motif, styled with sky-high Horsebit pumps and a classic Dionysus bag.

For a quick outfit change, Mimi slipped into a silk yellow-gold tunic dress by Carl Jan Cruz. The ensemble’s vintage-inspired prairie aesthetic is highlighted by an oversized bib collar that extends across the shoulders. A vibrant teal scalloped lace tracing the outer edges of the collar is mirrored by delicate piping running along the dress’s side seams.

Paired with black Bottega Veneta mules, the look is finished with oversized Gucci specs from Vision Express.
