Let’s be real: Laptop bags aren’t the most fashionable things to carry. They usually look boring, bulky, and are made in the same fabric as your office chair. With these concerns in mind, designer Marie De La Roche has created the perfect bag for the stylish career woman.
“I called this [style the] Blanket, because I wanted to do a comfort bag,” Marie tells Preview. “It’s a comfort bag because it fits so much! You’d never think it can fit so much because it looks so skinny.” The Blanket Midi and Mini bags are part of Marie’s latest collection in time for the holidays and are a little more grown-up compared to the brand’s previous designs. The silhouette is sculptural yet timeless and currently comes in black and midnight blue.
“I was thinking of the women [back] in the 1930s, where they’d have purses like these. But for the shape of the bag, I created this aggressive line for its base inspired by art deco architecture to make it more modern,” Marie shares, further explaining that the design and size was also created to satisfy the needs of working women (and moms!) in their 30s or 40s. “We use a special structure for this bag. This bag is super roomy—you can fit everything in there— but it’s super light. We use a specific structure made in Portugal for the bag’s lining so that the shape will stay the same for years to come. We also make sure that it’s light so it doesn’t hurt your back. So we tried to make it practical, functional, and beautiful at the same time.” The Blanket style closes almost automatically with its metal snaps, making it safe for commute, too. Talk about the perfect mix of function and fashion!
