Nowadays, a trip to the mall wouldn’t be complete without spotting a Mango store. The brand first arrived in the Philippines with a branch at Robinsons Ermita in 1999. By then, it had already been 15 years since Mango was founded in Spain. But what many people don’t know is that the brand has always carried a piece of the Philippines with it.
Mango Was Named After the Philippine Mango
On Mango’s website, the Philippines is recognized as “the country of origin of the group’s name.” The story behind the name is simple and even quite relatable.
Before founding Mango in Barcelona with his brother Nahman, the late Isak Andic traveled to the Philippines on a business trip. It was there that he tasted the country’s mangoes for the first time.

He was said to have been captivated by every aspect of it, from its vibrant color to its sweet taste and alluring appeal. Those qualities—freshness, modernity, and accessibility—captured the very essence he wanted the brand to embody.
Another advantage was that the word "mango" is pronounced the same way around the world. That has proven useful as the brand expanded globally. According to its 2025 report, Mango now has "more than 2,900 points of sale in over 120 markets worldwide."
In the Philippines, mangoes are enjoyed year-round. Filipinos reach for them on ordinary days and special occasions alike, with countless recipes that make the most of their sweetness and incorporate them into a wide range of dishes. Similarly, Mango aims to create pieces that can be worn season after season and for any occasion.
