Loewe Kickstarts a New Creative Era with the Amazona 180 Bag
For their debut collection, newly-minted creative directors Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough present a fresh reissue of Loewe's iconic Amazona silhouette.

The first collection by Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Loewe has landed in boutiques.
At their debut runway presentation during Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2026 last October, one moment stood out: the return of the Amazona, long considered one of the house’s defining handbag designs.
Reintroduced as a structured, doctor-style top-handle bag, the silhouette appeared in a spectrum of colors and leather finishes. Supple calfskin and plush suede rendered the piece in summer-ready hues and timeless neutrals, striking a balance between seasonal freshness and everyday versatility.
About the Amazona 180
The reissue coincides with Loewe’s 180th anniversary.
First launched in 1975, the Amazona arrived at a pivotal time in Spain, when more women were entering the workforce. Its construction responded to this practical shift in lifestyle, moving away from rigid frames and diminutive proportions.
Designed with the working woman in mind, the bag takes its name from the Amazons of Greek mythology—an all-female tribe of warriors and hunters said to be the daughters of Ares and Harmonia, often portrayed as challengers of entrenched patriarchy.
The original model debuted in gold suede with brown leather piping, stamped with Vicente Vela’s newly conceived Anagram. It formed part of Ante Oro, a collection that introduced Loewe’s first soft bags.
Through the years, the Amazona Top Handle has evolved in step with its audience, appearing in classic leather as well as suede.
In 2021, for Loewe’s 175th anniversary, then–creative director Jonathan Anderson revisited the design with two editions: the Amazona 19 Square and the Amazona 28. His update drew directly from the archive, retaining the oversized zippered compartments, interior mini pockets, adjustable straps, and discreet leather pullers.

Five years later, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez offer their interpretation of the iconic silhouette. Titled the Amazona 180, the new version preserves its signature details: domed side panels and a structured yet supple body. Two precisely constructed compartments, clean leather binding, and streamlined interiors highlight Loewe’s focus on craftsmanship and utility.
How Much is the Loewe Amazona 180 Bag?
