LOOK: Heart Evangelista Paints on Hermes and Other Designer Handbags
An accomplished painter, Heart previously made waves for her exhibit showcasing her handiwork on coveted bags such as the Hermes Kelly, marrying the worlds of fashion and art.
Her work opened doors for her around the world and helped kickstart her international fashion career, with Crazy Rich Asians author Kevin Kwan making a mention of her art in Harper's Bazaar.
In the feature, which was written by Kevin, Heart was quoted on the origins of her handpainted bags as follows:
"I had an orange lizard skin Birkin bag and I was eating french fries at Chili’s, and I didn’t realize I was getting grease all over the bottom...I tried to clean it, but it was just impossible to fix, so I thought, ‘Why don’t I paint on it?’ I sketched a yellow bird on a branch of flowers, and people started raving about it. A lot of women have their bags stained somewhere—one woman’s daughter had scribbled all over her Birkin—so all these clients started coming to me and asking, ‘Can you paint on my bag?'"
Heart's creations have also led her to develop a VIP clientele commissioning the artist to paint on their pieces such as Sen. Cynthia Villar, Jinkee Pacquiao, Dr. Aivee Teo, Kim Chiu, and Carla Abellana, among others.
We can't wait to see your artwork making a comeback, Heart!
