Heart Evangelista is always prancing around Paris, but just very recently she was in the City of Lights with Crazy Rich Asians author Kevin Kwan, causing significant buzz on social media. If you're a fashionphile, you know how big of a deal this is. Heart stars in a glittering, couture-swathed editorial as one of four real-life crazy rich Asians, headlining alongside Feiping Chang and twins Rachel and Michelle Yeoh. What all these women have in common—apart from belonging to old, wealthy families—is an inherent love for haute couture.
“Every time I go to the couture shows, it inspires my art,” Heart said to Kevin as they sat front row at the Schiaparelli show in the Palais Garnier. The article (penned by Kevin himself) even talks about her iconic bespoke, handpainted Hermès bags and why she began customizing them in the first place: “I had an orange lizard skin Birkin bag and I was eating french fries at Chili’s, and I didn’t realize I was getting grease all over the bottom...I tried to clean it, but it was just impossible to fix, so I thought, ‘Why don’t I paint on it?’ I sketched a yellow bird on a branch of flowers, and people started raving about it. A lot of women have their bags stained somewhere—one woman’s daughter had scribbled all over her Birkin—so all these clients started coming to me and asking, ‘Can you paint on my bag?'"
