Meet the Gucci Starlet

Demna offered a clearer definition of "Gucci-core" during the house's Cruise 2027 show. In the heart of Times Square, models paraded looks that prominently featured Gucci's signature motifs and house codes, reaffirming their place in the brand's visual identity.

The fourth collection under Demna's creative direction, Gucci-core presented a wardrobe inspired by New York style, interpreted through the house's distinctive aesthetic. "The idea was to build a core wardrobe of staple pieces that form the foundation of the House's stylistic language..." the designer writes in his show notes. He adds that the collection seeks to further develop his vision for the brand, one "grounded in pragmatic, wearable pieces that are unmistakably Gucci."

With that philosophy in mind, the designer drew on many of the label's defining codes—an abundance of double Gs, emblazoned on jackets, frocks, and, of course, bags.

Among these pieces was a slouchy, hobo-style bag called the Starlet. Bearing structural similarities to the Jackie Flap of Primavera, this interpretation of the everyday purse featured the signature Horsebit buckle and a modular leather strap. The Starlet is imbued with a sense of sprezzatura, its nonchalant shape exuding a devil-may-care attitude.
