A Closer Look at Gentle Monster's Custom Eyewear for G-Dragon
One-of-a-kind frames fit for K-pop royalty.

The Korean music scene hails G-Dragon as one of its most influential icons. Since his 2006 debut with the K-pop powerhouse BIGBANG, the rapper has garnered acclaim for trailblazing contributions that have shaped the industry’s evolution.

As one of the earliest self-producing idols and a major catalyst for hip-hop’s rise in Korean pop culture, G-Dragon has rightfully earned the moniker “King of K-pop.” His legacy continues to resonate with many to this day, having inspired a new wave of artists who look to him as a defining figure in the industry.
Yet his cultural influence extends far beyond music. G-Dragon is also regarded as one of South Korea’s most recognizable fashion personalities. Known for his eclectic and gender-fluid aesthetic, his personal style is marked by tweed jackets, loud prints, and layering opulent stacks of jewelry and pearls.

A tastemaker in every sense, G-Dragon has also led his own fashion label, PEACEMINUSONE, forged numerous partnerships with Nike, and holds the distinction of being Chanel’s first Asian global ambassador.
Now, after an almost eight-year hiatus from the industry, G-Dragon— also known by his real name, Kwon Jiyong— returns with a highly awaited album titled Übermensch, a philosophical concept that loosely translates to “overman.” To mark the release, South Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster unveiled two bespoke eyewear creations designed exclusively for the artist.

Gentle Monster’s Custom Eyewear Pieces for G-Dragon
Infused with the dynamic spirit of the album’s visuals, Gentle Monster developed two unique designs solely for G-Dragon—both of which capture his eclectic and fashion-forward personality. Both the eyewear and packaging are one-of-a-kind and are not available to the public.
Named after the album itself, the Übermensch frame takes cues from the daisy— G-Dragon’s favorite flower. Made with gold metal frames, the design features petal motifs encircling the clear lenses, the word Übermensch sculpted along the temples, and lip-shaped enamel accents at the end pieces.

The second design, aptly called Eye Cloud, features cloud-shaped lenses outlined with pearl studs—an ode, according to Gentle Monster, to “G-Dragon’s boundless and free-spirited journey across various fields.” Also framed in gold metal, the temples are adorned with enamel symbols, including a daisy and the emblem of PEACEMINUSONE, his fashion brand.
Designed to be customized endlessly, this piece is accompanied by a set of 168 interchangeable charms, each representing personal symbols such as his pet cat, iconic smiley-face tattoos, and other elements integral to his artistic persona.
