BINI recently took on the world stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, reportedly generating $5.4 million earned media value. The support and attention they garnered are certainly worth celebrating, although their appearance itself is already a feat—one that is also recognized by the Philippine government.

The nation’s girl group appeared at the Senate last May 6 as the upper house adopted Senate Resolution 370, which recognizes their historic performance. “Masasabi natin na ang tagumpay na ito ay isang salamin ng galing at talento ng Pilipino sa pandaigdigang entablado,” said Senator Bam Aquino in his sponsorship speech. He also recognized the importance of celebrating these milestones at a time of crisis.

As a cherry on top, the Office of Senator Bam Aquino also gifted the eight members with handwoven fruit bags from a sustainable Filipino brand.

Rags2Riches is the homegrown brand behind the bags gifted to BINI. The presents come from the Fruit Bag Series, which takes inspiration from these treats from the tropics. The carriers are handwoven by their urban artisans. With a commitment to slow fashion and artisan livelihood, each bag is made to order.

On Instagram, the brand shared that the bags given to BINI also came with personalized charms. Expressing their gratitude and praise for how the girl group represents the country globally, they wrote, “You’ve taken your craft to the world and brought all of us with you, reminding us what Filipino excellence looks like and what it feels like to be proud.”

Sen. Bam Aquino Co-Founded Rags2Riches Before He Became a Senator

While Sen. Bam is a known micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) and consumer advocate, Rags2Riches was one of the enterprises he helped establish even before he entered public service. He co-founded it with Reese Fernandez Ruiz, who is also the brand's president.

The homegrown brand was established to provide livelihood opportunities to artisans and underserved communities. Championing sustainability, they also breathe new life into unwanted fabric by turning them into bags and other handcrafted products.
