To tantalizing and tessellating effect, geometry and Rorschach inkblots get a psychedelic upgrade with Dodjie Batu’s Panasonic Manila Fashion Festival collection. Drawing inspiration from the six-sided shape, the hexagon, and the Rorschach test, the designs are making a serious splash when it comes to menswear.
Boiled down, the lineup was a modern rendition on retro Geometric patterns reminiscent of the ‘60s. Dandy models strutted down the runway in ensembles such as psychedelic printed button-downs worn with acid-hued trousers, inkblot-inspired sweater and pant coordinates, and Rorschach sweatshirts worn with geometric bottoms. If Dodjie had to pick favorites from the collection, it would include the bomber the jacket with the big inkblot print worn with hexagon-printed pants. As for the other look, it would have to be the three-piece chevron-dotted prints over the one-shoulder vest and pants combo with the long-sleeved button-down top. We do agree that these two looks are the standout outfits for its quirkiness and charm.
With all these clever twists on menswear staples, will dudes come around in a head-to-toe geometric print jumpsuit or in a Rorschach sweatshirt? On the runway, the collection was styled for Insta-appeal, but on the streets, will it translate the same? The answer is, of course, yes. Quirky prints are making their way into men’s closets lately, so why not inkblots and hexagon prints as well? Fashion-forward men have been donning boiler suits, it is also likely that they can have it in a geometric print as well. There hasn’t always been too many options for men when it comes to fashion. With Dodjie Batu’s new collection, men are being given a choice to level up their style game. When it comes to male dressing, Dodjie is definitely bringing something fun to the table.
