The power of social media is inarguable. One post can make a difference and get a conversation going, and this time, it was a tweet from Saturday Night Live actress Leslie Jones, who said that designers declined to dress her on July 15 for the red carpet premiere of the highly-anticipated Ghost Busters reboot, which she stars in with Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Chris Hemsworth, and #FiercelyReal actress Melissa McCarthy who also had the same problem two Oscars ago.
Jones tweeted "It's so funny how there are no designers wanting to help me with a premiere dress for the movie".
Fortunately, Project Runway alum Christian Siriano, replied within the hour with two waving-hands emojis to volunteer his services for the Ghost Busters star, garnering an outpour of love and support online.
All we can say is:
“I love Leslie and I’m a huge fan of her work. I can’t wait to create something special for her to wear,” Siriano told The Huffington Post. “Hopefully I will see her in my studio this week to make something new and exciting... I support all women no matter age or size!”
Later on, the Hollywood Reporter published a size-shaming reaction from certain stylists who basically said that no designer could dress her because she's not a "sample size," among many other reasons.
In another post, the designer expressed that this kind of mentality needs to change. After all, he dresses incredible women like Christina Hendricks, Danielle Brooks, Taylor Swift, and many more.
With Jones in the fierce hands of Christian Siriano, we can’t wait to see what they come up with.
Ghost Busters hits theaters on July 13 in Manila.
