Say hello to an effortless high heels experience, but without the dreaded pain.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always been daunted by tall and slim heels. Is it the irrational fear of getting caught between tiny gaps on the floor, or maybe just the thought of losing my balance and tripping? Regardless, a girl does get that urge for some extra height and poise every so often, and block heels provide that desired middle ground. Block heels are no doubt one of the embodiments of comfort in style. Compared to stilettos and pumps, they distribute our body’s weight much more evenly and make for a comfortable stroll.

Block heels are tough to miss with their chunky shape—think those colored wooden blocks we played with as children—and while they often come as strappy sandals you can easily slip on, there are still various styles and silhouettes to choose from. Not to mention they pair well with pieces and bottoms of any length, be it a baby doll dress to a midi skirt or even a pair of ankle-length jeans. Here we’ll list some foolproof ways celebs have taken to strut their own pairs.

5. Gabs & Chi Gibbs

Take cues from this sibling duo and let your personality shine with your choice of heels. Gabs Gibbs opts for a cut-out white pair with cylindrical block heels, while big sis Chi Gibbs dips into the more colorful side of the spectrum with strappy slip-ons. Both girls put their own spins on that classic white tee and frayed denim look.

Another piece making its comeback from the ‘90s are definitely white boots. Pia Wurtzbach keeps it simple with a green pantsuit and tops the look off with that pop of white. Local shoe label Annie + Lori’s take on the modern bakya surely counts as block heels, don’t you think? 19. Iza Calzado

We love this all-white number from Iza Calzado! White provides an amazing contrast with her skin tone, and one of the keys to this look are thickness—from her top’s neckline to the bow at the waist, right down to the thickness of the heel straps, all spanning about an inch to two inches. We can’t help but think this won’t have the same effect had the shoe straps been slimmer!
