Last night, Binibining Pilipinas introduced the new set of queens who will be representing our country in the major international pageants this 2018. Miss World-Philippines 2016 Catriona Gray made a glorious comeback onstage and bagged the Miss Universe-Philippines crown this time around, along with several other special awards.
Wowing the judges with both her beauty and brains, Catriona made a stunning entrance in a Swarovski-covered creation by Mak Tumang and an ear cuff called Three Stars and the Sun by Tessera Jewelry, which aptly symbolizes the Philippine flag.
The pageant also paid tribute to the late Filipino designer Pitoy Moreno, attaching his name to the National Costume Award that was also won by Catriona.
In the Q&A portion, the Filipina-Australian was asked for her message to the women of war-torn Marawi. She urged them to be strong, stating that women have great influence over both their families and community.
"My answer and my message to the women [is] to be strong. As women, we're the head of the household and we have amazing influence not only in our own families as mothers, sisters, and friends but also in our community. If we could get the women to stay strong and be that image of strength for the children and the people around them, then once the rebuilding is complete and is on their way, the morale of the community will stay strong and high," says Catriona.
