You’d think that a simple black one-piece swimsuit is as basic as it gets, but these days, these sleek maillots are anything but. The classic black style of the ’90s has since evolved from a one cut fits all to multiple variations designed to flatter each woman’s unique assets. From cutouts to deep-V necklines, we’ve seen many versions we’d love to cop, but photos of Kylie Vezosa, Lauren Reid, and Patricia Henson in one particular style made our thumbs stop auto-scrolling through IG.
It's not the scoop-neckline or the narrow cutout on the side that makes this suit particularly different. It’s the exceptionally high-cut bottom that rides up to the waist that gives this dark-hued maillot its exhilarating drama. And we say exhilarating because we literally held our breath imagining what it would be like to move in it. However, this photo of Patricia Henson wearing it as she’s about to dive into the sea with Rachel Peters proves it functions as well as it gives form.
But you’d expect a well-fitting bodice from a Boom Sason swimsuit. The designer’s creations have become a favorite of many a beach-loving fashion girl for the way it makes any woman who wears it look good. (Proof: Each of the guests at Sarah Lahbati’s bachelorette party in Siargao wore the same Sarah maillot and looked amazing in it.)
This particular style is called the Elle, which is described in the designer’s Instagram as “A little more daring, high cut with a beautiful peek-a-boo waist detail.” It can be custom ordered on her website in about 65 colors for P10,500. And speaking of other hues, we’ve also spotted Ina Raymundo and model Christi McGarry sporting the maillot in green and blue, respectively.
This one’s not for the faint-of-heart, and will certainly require a good bikini wax, but the way it elongates the leg line is definitely the Elle’s true superpower.
