Athleticism and fashion have always been parallel disciplines. Function may be an athlete's top priority for obvious reasons, but personalizing one's style has become an avenue of self-expression when in game mode. We see it illustrated through Naomi Osaka's cumbersome neon green bow or Simone Biles' glitterized leotard.
In the local scene, Filipina athletes have made much buzz, not only with their career triumphs, but also with their personal styles. On and off the court-slash-field-slash-mat, a new breed of champions have translated their sportsmanship to outfits that are as dynamic as they are. Stripped of the jerseys we usually see them in, these ladies know how to win, even when it comes to the fashion game.
Below, we list down five examples that deserve to fill up your style inspo folders. Scroll away and take notes!

Tennis prodigy Alex Eala doesn't shy away from a pop of color.
When she's not busy breaking records on the tennis court, Alex Eala dresses with intent and a sprinkle of fun. The 19-year-old is constantly on airplane mode, travelling from one competition to the next, so her wardrobe is occupied by fail-safe basics. Think a versatile pair of black trousers or an ever-so-reliable white tank top.
Alex's preferred method of sprucing things up is with liberal pops of color. It's as simple as throwing a royal blue pullover over her shoulders or reaching for a jewel-toned camisole.

Volleyball phenom Alyssa Valdez keeps it chic in neutrals.
They don't call Alyssa Valdez a phenomenon for no reason. After making a name for herself on the volleyball court, the Ateneo alumna has adopted a laidback style typified by an all-neutral color palette. But don't think any of her outfits border on boring, as Alyssa has invested in quite a number of statement pieces that can do all of the talking.
A proud supporter of all things Pinoy, you can spot the 31-year-old in skin-baring Odile Atelier blacks or structural Vina Romero whites. Alyssa also has a penchant for designer bags, in case you didn't know, as a classic tote is never absent from her OOTDs.

Sleek and sexy with a luxe touch is how racecar driver Bianca Bustamante does it.
No stranger to life on the fast lane (literally, though), Bianca Bustamante is developing her own brand of sexy with her OOTDs. The Gen Z racecar driver keeps things low-key in terms of color, but she amps things up with cut-outs, body-flaunting fits, and legs for days. Her style speaks to those who agree that less is actually more. Sometimes, a stamped face card is the only accessory a girl ever needs.
However, when she does need a carrier to accompany her looks, she has an arsenal of covet-worthy pieces. She's the type to rock a Louis Vuitton Petite Malle by day and a Dior D-Journey by night.
Kianna Dy

Off the volleyball court, Kianna Dy has mastered the art of dressing for all seasons.
Kianna Dy's closet is a treasure trove of flowy frocks, luxurious arm candy, and versatile basics. A force to be reckoned with in the volleyball world, she's often spotted globe-trotting these days, and seems to have a suitcase ready for any season. Chilly climates see her bundled up with an Acne Studios scarf, while warmer weather has her clutching a Loewe raffia purse.
Also a budding content creator, Kianna is not afraid to experiment when it comes to her looks. While modish motifs like double denim or print-on-print might intimidate others, the former De La Salle Lady Spiker approaches such with intuition, infusing them with her own flavor.

Basketball star Camille Clarin is a sneakerhead through and through.
Basketball belle Camille Clarin is a bona fide sneakerhead. Anyone remotely interested in the sport is bound to be exposed to the world of kicks, and Camille is happily no exception. A Nike girl through and through, the point guard mixes the hottest trainers with curated streetwear to produce looks that are distinctly her own.
With the swooshes as the focal points of her looks, Camille has learned to master color theory, styling the rest of her 'fit to her feet. In her book, you could never go wrong with going monochromatic. Or you could also go ahead and incorporate some funky prints, because why not?
