In her latest Instagram OOTD, the young actress sported the cartoon-like oversized footwear, which recently rocked the Internet for its comparisons to the costume of the cult classic anime Astro Boy. Backdropped by a store aisle stocked with Hello Kitty merch, Andrea added a Y2K spin to the viral boots, pairing them with a sweetheart tank, a denim skirt, and a long-sleeved bolero shrug.
To top off the fun and youthful look, the teen celebrity donned the mighty shoes with a fuzzy shoulder bag and the It Girl accessory of the moment, Apple’s AirPods Max in its space gray edition.
What is MSCHF’s Big Red Boot?
Made from a TPU rubber shell, the Big Red Boot (“BRB” for short) gained internet virality due to its larger-than-life silhouette, just as if it popped out of the animated screen. Aside from its comparison to Astro Boy’s red rounded footwear, the American art collective MSCHF also cited Dora the Explorer’s monkey companion Boots, who, yes, wears big red boots just like them.
Since its founding in 2016 by CEO Gabriel Whaley, the Brooklyn-based collective has produced its share of sensational pieces like Lil Nas X “Satan Shoes” collaboration, which supposedly included a drop of real human blood.
Like its previous offerings, the BRB is now the talk of the town. Aside from the Philippines’ very own Andrea, international celebrities like Ciara and Lil Wayne have been spotted donning the quirky pair.
How much is the Big Red Boot?
Those who wish to snag a pair of BRBs for their own collection might have to wait a little longer, though. The red boots are currently sold out on MSCHF’s site, which originally had a price tag of $350 (approx. P19,294).
