“I just enjoyed the whole show that night,” Janine recalls the Miss Universe pageant night back in 2012 where in Olivia Culpo took home the crown. “I kept praying and left my fate to God. Also, I was excited to go home and see my family. So upon the announcement of the winner, my first thought was, ‘Yes! Makakauwi na ako.’”

“The reason I joined: I wanted to improve myself,” Shamcey says who's a self-confessed nerd. “It was a venue for me to learn. My whole life I’d been focusing on honing myself intellectually. Pero wala akong alam sa beauty.” Prior to the pageant, she’d never donned a swimsuit, never wore heels, never exercised, and never ever imagined joining any beauty contest."

“When I first saw Venus, I thought she was stunning,” Jonas Gaffud of Aces & Queens looks back on that moment the statuesque dark beauty walked through his door. “She was tall, elegant, graceful.” But there was still some work to be done. Venus concurs, “Akala ko dati ang galing-galing ko na maglakad, but Jonas worked with me on my walk, my posture.”
