Two things should come to mind when you come across luxury watch brand Omega: a spirit of adventure, explorers like Buzz Aldrin and Jacques Cousteau famously wore the Speedmaster and Seamaster in their missions, and precise timekeeping. Their commitment to the latter is evidenced in their latest release, the Seamaster Aqua Terra. First created in 2002 to be reliable on both sea and land, the newest version has passed all eight tests of the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) to receive the certification of Master Chronometer.
Part of passing these stringent checks on accuracy and function is a test to on how well the watch works even when exposed to magnetic forces. In this case, the anti-magnetic properties of the timepiece were able to maintain its performance even after exposure to 15,000 gauss magnetic force. Fun fact: A regular quartz or mechanical watch could actually stop ticking when exposed to a magnet like the clasp in your purse, and when it starts back up, you can be sure that the time reflected will no longer be accurate. Next thing you know, you’re late for all you succeeding to-dos.
