If you're out in the field as a medical frontliner helping battle the COVID-19 pandemic, then you would know just how many layers of wearable protection you'd need to avoid contracting the virus yourself. To stay safe while saving lives, the minimum would be a PPE suit, goggles, gloves, and a heavy-duty face mask...all of which you'd have to keep on for prolonged amounts of time, depending on the length of your shift.
That said, there's got to be significant skin strain after hours and hours of wearing masks. The elastics that are hooked behind one's ears can cause painful chafing and soreness, so what are some of the brilliant solutions doctors and nurses have come up with? Check them out below:
1. The headband trick
Sew a button onto a fabric headband and use it as an anchor.
P.S. Local shop TELAstory is giving away their custom-made headbands to healthcare workers for free!
2. The paperclip clasp
Take a paperclip to utilize as a makeshift clasp for securing the mask behind your head.
3. The ponytail wrap
Loop the straps around your tied-up ponytail or bun. Simple!
