Toyo Eatery has been named one of the best restaurants in Asia for the third consecutive year. The restaurant was also crowned the best restaurant in the Philippines by the awarding body of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2020 list. Toyo came in at number 49, the only Philippine restaurant to make it to the top 50.
Toyo Eatery was opened by husband and wife duo Jordy and May Navarra in 2016, and has been a regular on Asia’s best restaurants list for the past three years. In 2019, the restaurant came in at 43rd place, and in 2020, it was at 44th. A champion of Filipino food, Toyo toasts local cuisine by reinventing traditional dishes while still sticking to native techniques.
Like most annual events nowadays, Asia’s Best took place virtually. Here are the screenshots of Toyo’s awarding moment.
Toyo Eatery is located at The Alley at Karrivin Plaza along Chino Roces Avenue in Makati City. Toyo and its bakery, Panaderya Toyo, are open for outdoor dining and take-out for those who wish to stay home.
Prior to the event, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants released the early ranking of Asia’s 50 Best, which revealed the 51st to 100th restaurants on the list. Two Philippine restaurants, Antonio's Tagaytay and Gallery by Chele, made it to the list this year. Antonio's Tagaytay figured at the 84th spot while Gallery by Chele ranked at the 90th spot.
Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants is sponsored S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna and is judged by roughly 300 food writers, critics, chefs, restaurateurs, and culinary experts.
