More than a decade—12 years to be exact—after the Twilight saga ended with its fourth installation with Breaking Dawn, author Stephenie Meyer is finally releasing its long-anticipated prequel.
Titled Midnight Sun, the novel is set to take fans back to Forks, Washington to relive Bella Swan and Edward Cullen’s epic love story. This time though, readers can expect to watch it all play out through Edward’s point-of-view. “There is so much more to his side of the story than there is to Bella’s in that first chapter...His side of Bella’s first day at Forks High School is a hundred times more exciting than her own,” wrote Stephenie years ago when she first teased a rough draft of the book's first chapter on her website.
For Twihards the delightfully shocking news came after a mysterious countdown on Stephenie’s website fell to zero last night. After which, the book’s cover and a press release from the author herself were launched, to the elation of 13-year-olds at heart all over the world. After all, it had been a decade long wait for what seemed to be a promised treat that would never become.
“I hope this announcement doesn’t seem ill-timed; I really considered delaying the release until the world was back to normal. However, 1) who knows when that will be? And 2) you guys have waited long enough. Much longer than long enough, actually,” Stephenie said in a statement. “I don’t know how everyone else is coping, but right now books are my main solace and happiest escape. Personally, I would be nothing but delighted if one of my favorite authors announced something new for me to read. So, I hope this announcement gave you some pleasure and something fun to look forward to.”
Aside from the book, the author teased more fresh content for fans this summer including music, contests, and a book tour to look forward to.
Midnight Sun is set for release this coming August 4, 2020.
