Song Joong-Ki is no stranger to playing dashing and charismatic leading men roles, but his latest project is unlike anything we’ve seen him done before. For one, he’s ultra tan with messy brown locks and a painted face—a total contrast to the handsome Captain Yoo Si-Jin he portrayed in Descendants of the Sun.
The upcoming Netflix Original, Arthdal Chronicles, is a fantasy K-drama epic starring Song Joong-Ki, Jang Dong-Gun, Kim Ji-Won and Kim Ok-Bin. Set at the birth of civilization, the series, which will start streaming on June 1, is said to have mythical and legendary elements that make it quite unique. Just like Kingdom, another Netflix Original, Arthdal Chronicles seems to want to expand the K-drama genre with a more serious and imaginative approach.
Here's your first look at Joong-Ki as Eunseom from the Wahan Tribe:
In the trailer, we see Eunseom riding through the forest on a horse and battling it out with his tribe’s enemies. We also catch of a glimpse of Kim Ji-Won’s character, who may or may not be Joong-Ki’s love interest in the series. But whether or not romance blooms within this action-packed fantasy, it’s definitely a must-watch for anyone craving a different take on historical dramas.
