Crash Landing on You's Son Ye-jin is contributing to the fight against the rapid spread of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) in South Korea.
According to a report by Soompi, the actress recently donated 100 million won (approximately P4.2 million) to the city of Daegu, which also happens to be her hometown.
"[It's] where I was born and raised, as well as the place where my parents live now. So it is a particularly special place for me, and the news of [the COVID-19 outbreak] in Daegu was especially heartbreaking for me." Ye-jin explained. “I hope that my donation can provide some sort of practical help to lower-income residents who desperately need help now more than ever, as well as aid in the treatment and prevention of COVID-19."
Ye-jin's donation will go straight to the Daegu branch of the Community Chest of Korea and will be used for attaining medical supplies needed to prevent the spread of the virus.
Other Korean actors have also pitched in for the cause including Lee Young Ae, Kim Go Eun, and Itaewon Class' Park Seo Joon, who donated the same amount as Ye Jin.
Daegu is at the epicenter of South Korea's coronavirus outbreak with 540 infected residents out of the country's current patient count of 1146. Subsequently, 169 of these have been newly reported just this week.
In line with the epidemic within the country, the Philippines imposed a temporary travel ban to South Korea. However, the said restriction has currently been lifted in order to set more streamlined guidlines before execution. "The travel ban to Korea is pending full implementation right now because we're still waiting for the copy of the resolution, as well as clarification on how to target these passengers," said immigration spokesperson Dana Sandoval to CNN.
Accordingly, unlike travel bans placed on China, Hong Kong, and Macau, that of South Korea's will only be restricted to certain provinces.
