The owners of this 65sqm condo unit want to have the space rented out via AirBnb. So to make their future guests feel welcome and at ease, they envisioned a "bright, clean, and airy" scandi-inspired look for the rental home.

"The unit came with standard finishes," shared interior designer Claudine Medina in an email interview with Real Living. "They were okay, but not suited for the style my clients want so we changed the wall and baseboard colors, flooring, bathroom tiles, kitchen cabinets, and door colors. We also added recessed downlights all over the unit to achieve that bright yet cozy feel."
Upon entry, the dining area welcomes guests into the unit. "I added an accent wall art [on the wall opposite the door] for a nice impact."
The entryway, on the other hand, was kept simple but functional. It only had a slim storage cabinet and a massive mirror.
"I placed a tall mirror in between the windows to reflect more light into the unit and make the space brighter. The walnut frame of the mirror also adds a nice contrast to the lighter wood finishes in the unit."
The condo unit has an open floor layout, so you have a view of the living area (and the TV) while dining. "I made sure to maximize the openness of the space by not adding walls between the dining and living areas. I just added a shelving unit by the dining area to serve as the visual divider between these areas."
Similarly, the unit's living room follows a neutral color scheme but with touches of blue for a subtle pop of color. "I just added colors through the wall decor, carpet, and accessories so it’s easier and less expensive for them to change styles in the future." Claudine particularly chose blue for the accent color since it can still act as a netural. "Since this unit will be rented out while my [Singapore-based] clients are [away], I made sure to use gender-neutral accent colors so it will still attract a wider market."
Meanwhile, the newly-renovated kitchen looks just as inviting as the living area. Previously, it had a dark gray granite countertop and its cabinets were covered in dark-stained wood laminates.
"We decided to replace the existing kitchen cabinets with this beautiful kitchen system that my clients ordered and shipped from IKEA Singapore," she shared. Sticking to the bright and airy look of the condo, Claudine opted for an all-white color palette warmed up with touches of wood.
The detail that stands out the most to us is the wooden countertop, which added a charming touch to the kitchen. At the same time, it blends well with the Scandinavian theme of the unit. "[My clients] were keen on getting a wood countertop for this space ever since they saw kitchen setups with this material in an IKEA store."
Claudine's vision for the bedrooms was minimalist, with only a few pieces of furniture to make each space look easy on the eyes. She explained, "my clients are drawn towards [Japanese lifestyle store] MUJI's aesthetics: simple, clean, and functional."
She also incorporated a space-saving trick in the bedroom! "For the master bedroom, I designed this built-in headboard where you can put more stuff in. [It also has] a floating shelf above it to display art and accessories, as well as open side tables."
