In recent years, podcasts have started to become a staple in the daily routines of many. Thanks to this, outspoken talents from all around the world—including our own celebrities, like Pia Wurtzbach and Gabbi Garcia, and independent voice artists alike—have begun transitioning to the platform to share their opinions on various topics with anyone willing to listen.
As the podcast scene continues to grow rapidly, even our own countrymen—or countrywomen for this matter—have caught on with the movement. If you’re looking for a female perspective to guide you through your daily grind, any of these ladies below could be a perfect addition to your playlists for a little empowerment, girl talk, and self-care.
Check out these 7 podcasts hosted by Filipina personalities if you’re up for some honest girl talk:
1. Y2K with Yellie and Kakie Pangilinan
Daughters of politician Kiko Pangilinan, Miel and Kakie Pangilinan have stepped foot into the spotlight through their very own podcast. The siblings share stories on their personal lives and career endeavors, including what it was like for them to grow up under the public eye and the creative processes they have when it comes to their projects. Most recently, they had two episodes guest starring their mother, mega star Sharon Cuneta.
2. Kwentos with Hannah and Pausecast with Hannah Pangilinan
People may know her as Donny Pangilinan’s sister, but Hannah Pangilinan is well on her way to making a name for herself in the entertainment industry. A few months into the lockdown two years ago, Hannah started her podcast and sat down with her listeners as she shared her own sentiments in regard to her new year’s resolutions, her spirituality, and her thoughts on love and relationships. Her podcast became her gateway to building better, vulnerable connections with her online followers.
Hannah’s efforts paid off soon enough as she eventually managed to land a Spotify Original deal, now titled Pausecast with Hannah Pangilinan. This series focuses on the well-being of her listeners and is described by the podcaster as “your wellness fix, in audio form.” Hannah’s fans know her on Youtube for her soothing voice, and her podcasting career has been a great fit for her, especially with all the very relatable topics she tackles. FYI, the Pausecast talks about anxiety, self-image issues, and conflicts with your friends or family.
3. From Nikki With Love
This podcast is like an audio version of an advice column targeted towards the hopeless romantics. Its host, Nikki Vicente, starts most of her episodes with a letter by a listener from her past episodes. Recently she spoke about “No-label” relationships, getting ghosted, and everyone’s favorite romance trope: falling in love with your best friend.
4. Girl Talk Unsupervised
Imagine the barkada from The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Yep, the hosts, Sophie Concio, Giu Martinez, and Lucy Lizares, have quite a similar dynamic. Girl Talk Unsupervised is a shared podcast between three best friends who met in high school as they make their way through life, now as college students and young adults. From all the shenanigans they got into at their all-girls school to the "Barbie cinematic universe," listening to this trio almost feels like you’re just having brunch with your girl friends.
5. The Hive Podcast
Hosted by thrift and Y2K queen Bianca Gan, her podcast is like catching up with a friend after not seeing each other for a long time. Bianca shares stories about the ups and the downs of her life, including how she eventually found her own style.
