Just as it was when she stepped foot on the Miss Universe stage, Filipinos abroad flocked by her side to root for her next achievement: completing the annual New York City Marathon.

After a series of strenuous training sessions with coach Gabb Rosario, the beauty queen ticked off her bucket list last Sunday, November 6, where she raced all five boroughs of the Big Apple. According to Pia, it was a “life lesson” and “the best run” of her life.
“This medal represents how important it is that we keep the promises we make to ourselves. To me, it was running because I wanted a new challenge, a new discipline — to be healthier & to step out of my comfort zone, to see how far I can go,” she captioned her Instagram post, which included the star brandishing her sought-after medallion.
“This time, I stuck by running a marathon for me. This was my way of taking care of myself. And now, it has enriched my life so much because it has put me in a better place, so I feel recharged and energized to be of service to others.”
Included in her appreciative Instagram update were snaps of Filipinos crowding the streets of New York City, carrying the Philippine flag and placards that read “Takbo, Pia, takbo!” and messages from the LGBTQ+ community.
“I’m grateful for all the support and cheering on ground and online,” she wrote. “I saw your signages, your messages, and posts—kahit sobra yung kaba ko and 'yung pagod 5 hours in, lumalakas loob ko.”
