Heads up, K-drama fans! Netflix has a new series in the works and from the looks of it, we might just get another thrilling supernatural drama a la Kingdom. This time though, instead of zombies, they’ve got fiery angels descending on earth!
Titled Hellbound, its current confirmed cast includes Yoo Ah In, Park Jung Min, Kim Hyun Joo, Won Jin Ah, and Yang Ik June. According to a press release from Netflix, the upcoming drama is premised on “supernatural angels appearing out of nowhere to condemn people to hell.”
Lead star Ah In (Punch, Veteran)—who’s also one of the top paid K-actors of 2020—plays Jeong Jin Su, the charismatic yet mysterious leader of the New Truth Church. The group is a religious cult that openly preaches of the vengeful angels’ visits, proclaiming that they’ve been sent by the “divine.”
Working against Jin Su is Bae Yeong Jae as portrayed by Jung Min (Time to Hunt, Svaha: The Sixth Finger). A producer at a broadcasting company, Yeong Jae sets out to uncover the truth behind the New Truth Church.
Other characters to watch out for in Hellbound are Min Hye Jin (Kim Hyun Joo), a confident lawyer who questions the New Truth Church and its devotees. There’s also Yeong Jae’s wife Hong Ji Yeong (Won Jin Ah) who, in a bitter twist of fate, is actually a member of the cult group, and Jin Gyeong Hun (Yang Ik June), a police detective who tries to make sense of the arrival of the angels of death.
Train to Busan and Peninsula director Yeon Sang Ho will be helming the drama. He’s also set to work on the script alongside webtoon illustrator Choi Gyu Seok.
