With a solid 24 years in the acting business, she’s a certified household name best known for her hit TV series including Autumn in My Heart, Full House, and Descendants of the Sun. Considering her impressive repertoire, it’s no surprise that she’s currently the fifth highest paid K-drama actress for 2020, and was ranked sixth for Forbes Korea’s Power Celebrity list back in 2018. With all that said, how rich exactly is a Hallyu star of Hye Kyo’s fame and caliber?

To put things into perspective, Hye Kyo is reportedly paid $42,000 per K-drama episode. Considering her latest show Encounter, which she starred in alongside Park Bo Gum for 16 episodes, the actress easily made over $670,000 (or approximately P32.4 million) back in 2019. That number still excludes her luxury brand commercial deals, which particularly skyrocketed after the success of her largely popular 2016 drama Descendant’s of the Sun.
A few of the 38-year-old’s luxury deals include becoming the Asia-Pacific ambassadress for the high-end French jewelry brand Chaumet. She also spent 10 years as the face of South Korean cosmetic brand Laneige, before inking a modeling deal with its sister brand Sulwhasoo in 2018. Most recently, the beloved Hallyu star shot a short fashion film for Bottega Veneta’s 2020 spring collection.
Apart from her undeniable reach in South Korea, Hye Kyo has also made a name for herself around Asia, particularly in China. She’s starred in a total of four Chinese films from 2013-2015, one of which is the 2013 martial arts drama The Grandmaster, helmed by world famous auteur Wong Kar-wai. The film earned over $64 million in the box office and was nominated for the 86th Academy Awards.
As of 2020, Celebrity Net Worth estimates Hye Kyo’s earnings at $20 million (or approximately P967 million!) Now that’s one hefty bank account. The South China Morning Post notes that the actress often invests most of her wealth on luxury real estate. She reportedly owns three properties in Samseong-dong, which is known as one of Seoul’s most expensive neighborhoods.
